Gateshead and South Tyneside Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and Sunderland Teaching PCT to ensure local health services meet the needs of local people. Whatever role you join us in, at whatever level, you will find a range of opportunities that offer the chance to play a key part in the next stage of our development.

An opportunity has arisen to join Gatesheads Special Needs Paediatric Speech & Language Therapy Team based in Dunston Health Centre. The post is a temporary one for approximately 9 months to cover a Maternity Leave. The Team work with children, from birth to school leaving age, who have speech, language, communication and/or feeding difficulties associated with additional/complex needs related to physical, sensory or learning disabilities. Children are seen in a variety of settings including Nurseries, Play Groups, Childrens Centres, Mainstream and Special Schools and where appropriate in their own homes.

Applicants should have a relevant degree in Speech & Language Therapy/Pathology or equivalent and be able to evidence substantial experience working with children who have additional needs. A post graduate accreditation in Paediatric Dysphagia would be advantageous. The post involves travel between settings on a daily basis therefore a car driver is essential.

The Special Needs Paediatric SLT Team is one of 4 Teams working within the Paediatric Speech & Language Therapy Service. The Service is friendly and supportive, encourages opportunities for continuing professional development and holds regular team/service meetings.
